The British Columbia Hockey Conference has announced its inaugural 3 Stars of the Week, recognizing one standout goaltender, forward and defenceman for performances from Sept. 10–20.
Goaltender: Leo den Besten, Fernie Ghostriders
Den Besten finished the first week of the regular season with a 2-0-0 record, one shutout, a 0.96 goals-against average and a .958 save percentage.
He stopped all 18 shots he faced in a 4-0 victory over Grand Forks before turning aside 28 of 30 shots through regulation and overtime in a 3-2 shootout win over Nelson. Den Besten also denied all five Nelson shooters in the shootout.
Forward: Will Bell, Princeton Posse
Bell recorded three goals and three assists across two games, giving him a BCHC-leading average of 3.00 points per game.
He collected two assists in Princeton’s 3-2 overtime victory over Merritt, including the primary assist on Cale Chimera’s game-winning goal. Bell followed with a hat trick and an assist in a 5-4 win over Kamloops.
Defenceman: Noah Marshall, Chilliwack Jets
Marshall produced two goals and three assists over three games, tying for the lead in points among BCHC defencemen.
He recorded two goals and an assist in Chilliwack’s 7-4 victory over Coastal before adding two assists against Port Coquitlam.
