Twenty games were played across the British Columbia Hockey Conference from Friday through Sunday, with eight requiring overtime or a shootout.
The weekend also brought home-opening celebrations to communities across the province, combining action on the ice with pregame parties, partner activations and recognition of those who serve their communities.
Communities Come Together
Recycle BC, the Official Recycling Partner of the BCHC, joined the celebrations with activations in Summerland and Osoyoos, bringing recycling education and family-friendly activities directly to fans.
The Summerland community came out in full force to support the Jets and local firefighters, packing Summerland Arena with 753 fans. Following an incredibly difficult wildfire summer, the home opener gave the team and community an opportunity to recognize the firefighters who worked tirelessly to protect Summerland and support its residents.
Vancouver Canucks alumni were also in attendance for the Osoyoos home opener. Aaron Volpatti played music during the pregame party, while Dave Babych, Cliff Ronning and other Canucks alumni watched the Coyotes’ first home game of the season.
Weekend Standouts
Kamloops Storm forward Luca D’Amore and Princeton Posse forward Will Bell shared the weekend scoring lead with five points each.
D’Amore scored four times in Kamloops’ 7-1 win over Columbia Valley on Friday before adding an assist Saturday. Bell recorded an assist Friday, then scored three goals and added another assist in Princeton’s 5-4 win over Kamloops on Saturday.
Osoyoos Coyotes forward Julian Galenza also delivered a hat trick Saturday, scoring three times in the Coyotes’ 7-0 home-opening victory over Summerland.
Three goaltenders recorded shutouts during the weekend:
- Leo den Besten made 18 saves in the Fernie Ghostriders’ 4-0 win over the Grand Forks Border Bruins on Friday.
- Sam Koester stopped all 25 shots he faced in the Osoyoos Coyotes’ 7-0 win over the Summerland Jets on Saturday.
- Koen St. Hilaire made 19 saves as the Langley Trappers defeated the Burnaby Steelers 1-0 in overtime on Saturday.
