Kimberley kept rolling, Chilliwack found its speed, and Coastal and Delta combined for enough goals to keep everyone busy.
The BCHC’s 22-game weekend delivered three hat tricks, last-minute drama and a few answers to Friday’s preview. Here’s how the stories unfolded October 16–18.
Kimberley makes it seven
Two more games. Two more wins.
The Dynamiters extended their winning streak to seven with a 5–2 victory over Beaver Valley on Friday and a 3–1 win against Summerland on Saturday.
Beaver Valley arrived with consecutive wins since its previous loss to Kimberley, but the Dynamiters built a 4–2 lead through two periods before Jaden Rusznak added an empty-net goal.
Saturday brought a tighter contest. Summerland’s Chase Heide scored in the first period, but goals from Aiden Conroy, Conner Grainger and Rusznak gave Kimberley another victory. Grainger’s was his first BCHC goal.
After taking the No. 1 spot in the league’s first weekly Power Rankings, the Dynamiters gave themselves a strong case to stay there.
Merritt finds another way in a shootout
Merritt’s winning streak ended Friday. Its knack for winning shootouts did not.
Nelson defeated the Centennials 5–3 behind Jayden Spence’s three second-period power-play goals. Spence added two assists for a five-point night.
Merritt responded Saturday by beating Revelstoke 6–5 in a shootout, ending the Grizzlies’ four-game winning streak.
Sam Saskiw made 46 saves through regulation and overtime before stopping all three Revelstoke shootout attempts. Reid Ronning supplied the only shootout goal.
For the Centennials, it was their third shootout victory in four games. For Revelstoke, the extra point extended its run of games with a point to five.
Twenty-four goals, two wins to share
Coastal had an opportunity to halve its eight-point deficit to Delta. Instead, the teams split a weekend that produced 24 goals and left the gap unchanged.
Max Wingrove recorded a hat trick in Saturday’s 7–6 Tsunami victory at Sungod Arena.
Sunday’s return matchup in Gibsons was tied 3–3 after two periods before Delta scored four times in the third to win 7–4. Hudson Guiel scored twice during that final-period push.
The result left Delta with 19 points and Coastal with 11. Plenty happened between them, but neither gained ground on the other.
The Jets found their speed
Chilliwack’s ’80s Night came with a nine-goal soundtrack.
Ryan McAuley scored a hat trick as the Jets defeated Burnaby 9–6 on Saturday. Ayden Pimm added two goals, while Tracen Ashley scored his first BCHC goal.
The Steelers made Chilliwack work for it, scoring six times, but couldn’t quite make the Jets pump the brakes.
Yes, the ’80s cheese survived the weekend.
Chilliwack followed with a 5–2 victory over Port Coquitlam on Sunday, completing a four-point weekend with 14 goals scored. Burnaby remained in search of its first win after losses to PoCo, Chilliwack and Langley.
A memorable first in Port Coquitlam
Adrien Comeau’s first BCHC goals came with a flair for timing.
With Port Coquitlam and Burnaby tied 2–2 in the third period, Comeau put the Trailblazers ahead. After the Steelers pulled even again, he delivered the winner with just 36 seconds remaining, sealing a 4–3 victory on Pink in the Rink night.
Three towns, three very different games
Nelson opened its Thompson-Okanagan trip with Spence’s five-point performance and a win in Merritt, then ran into a Kamloops team that scored nine times Saturday.
Sunday in Osoyoos brought a much closer finish. Sebastien Conne-Correnti tied the game with 46 seconds remaining before Jeyvn Gill scored in overtime to give the Coyotes a 5–4 victory. Nelson returned home with three points from three games.
Summerland’s Kootenay Division trip ended without a win, but Friday’s opener went down to the closing minutes. Columbia Valley scored the deciding goal with 1:49 remaining to defeat the Jets 4–3.
Summerland then fell 3–1 in Kimberley and 6–2 in Fernie. The Jets were without injured goaltender Sharky Nowek, and the BCHC continues to wish him well in his recovery.
Comebacks, close finishes and busy goaltenders
Grand Forks produced one of the weekend’s biggest turnarounds Saturday, erasing a 4–1 deficit to beat Quesnel 6–5 in overtime. Thomas Clarke tied the game with 31 seconds remaining before Declan Johnstone scored the overtime winner. Both recorded their first BCHC goals.
Richmond’s Haden Heide delivered one of the standout performances in net Sunday, making 48 saves in a 4–3 win over Ridge Meadows. The Flames had earned their own one-goal victory Friday, when Jack Schierau scored with 3:23 remaining to beat Langley 4–3.
Kamloops and Williams Lake each completed two-win weekends. The Storm followed Friday’s four-goal third period against Osoyoos with a 9–1 win over Nelson. The Mustangs defeated Grand Forks and Princeton, scoring 11 goals across the two games.
Fernie also collected four points, recovering from a 2–0 deficit to beat Beaver Valley 3–2 on Saturday before defeating Summerland on Sunday.
