Franchise Records, First Wins and Eight Straight: BCHC Weekend Recap

A franchise record on the Sunshine Coast. A long-awaited first win in Burnaby. Eight straight victories for Williams Lake.

Halloween weekend delivered plenty of milestones across the British Columbia Hockey Conference, with Coastal making franchise history, Beaver Valley completing a three-game sweep and Langley bringing Richmond’s winning streak to an end.

Across 20 games, the weekend also produced standout individual performances and 14 first BCHC goals as the league entered November.

Coastal makes franchise history

The Coastal Tsunami extended their winning streak to four games, establishing a new franchise record with victories over Burnaby (5–1) on Halloween and Port Coquitlam (4–2) on Sunday.

Sunday’s win required a comeback. Trailing 2–1 in the second period, Coastal scored three unanswered goals, with Emmett Stanfield recording his first BCHC goal to tie the game and Ben Walker netting the winner just 1:39 into the third. Parker Parrish made 31 saves.

The milestone goes beyond the winning streak. According to the club, the Tsunami have entered November with a winning record for the first time in franchise history.

Burnaby breaks through with first BCHC win

After weeks of close calls, the Burnaby Steelers earned their first BCHC regular-season victory Friday, defeating Ridge Meadows 4–1.

Trevor Chin scored twice, while Finlay Johnston recorded his first BCHC goal, which stood as the game-winner. Sam Bastien stopped 38 of 39 shots, and Kai Massullo added his first BCHC goal into an empty net late in the third.

Burnaby had come close several times, including a 2–1 shootout loss to Richmond the previous Sunday. The Steelers fell 5–1 to Coastal on Saturday but leave October with their first win in the books.

Williams Lake reaches eight straight

The Williams Lake Mustangs added two more victories to extend their winning streak to eight games, defeating Summerland 4–2 Friday before surviving a 4–3 shootout against Fernie Saturday.

Kaden Charpentier scored twice against Summerland, while Landon Gillanders recorded his first BCHC goal.

Saturday’s matchup provided a late test. Fernie led 3–2 until Logan Hauk scored with just 43 seconds remaining in regulation. After a scoreless overtime, Williams Lake secured the shootout victory.

The Mustangs finish the weekend tied with Kimberley atop the BCHC standings with 25 points.

Beaver Valley completes three-game sweep

The Beaver Valley Nitehawks collected all six available points with victories over Nelson on Friday (3–2) and Saturday (7–6), followed by a 4–1 win over Osoyoos Sunday.

Saturday’s rematch was the weekend’s highest-scoring contest. Beaver Valley built a 7–4 lead before Nelson scored twice in the final three minutes. Ben Fragle and Jackson Rendall each scored twice for the Nitehawks.

Sunday, Beaver Valley scored three unanswered second-period goals, and Kayd Mercier stopped 25 of 26 shots to complete the sweep.

The Nitehawks finish the weekend with 21 points, tied with Fernie in the Kootenay Division.
