The BCHC just landed one of the most decorated officials in Canadian hockey.
Mike Campbell has been named the British Columbia Hockey Conference’s new Director of Officiating, ahead of the league’s inaugural Junior A season. He will oversee officiating operations, development programming, performance standards, and department strategy, shaping the league’s officiating identity from day one.
It’s a role that fits Campbell’s resume. An active Western Hockey League (WHL) official and the reigning WHL Official of the Year, he has worked some of the biggest games in the sport: the Olympic Games, IIHF Men’s World Championships, IIHF World Junior Championships, the CHL Memorial Cup, the Centennial Cup, and the American Hockey League (AHL) as a referee.
His leadership credentials run just as deep. Campbell served as the Lower Mainland BC Hockey High Performance Lead and is currently a National High Performance Officiating Coach for Hockey Canada. He also sits on the Hockey Canada National Development Team coaching staff and the national assignment selection committee, helping shape the next generation of elite officials.

His immediate focus will be recruiting and retaining officials across British Columbia. Approximately 185 officials worked provincial junior hockey last year, and strengthening that base is a top priority.
For a young linesperson in Revelstoke or a referee in Quesnel wondering if there’s a future in officiating, Campbell’s appointment sends a clear signal: the BCHC is investing in the people who call the games. The league is building a development pathway from elite minor hockey through to major junior, national, and international assignments, and Campbell is the one who will lead it.
The BCHC is the sanctioned Hockey Canada Junior A league in British Columbia, set to begin its inaugural season in September 2026.
